After All I Can Do

After All I can do.
I am honoring my Savior Jesus Christ and remembering Him with the deepest of Gratitude this weekend. Jesus was crucified and died on the cross on Friday and laid in a lifeless body in a Tomb to rise on the third day as passed prophets and scripture had testified. Sunday, tomorrow, I celebrate his Glorious Resurrection. This is the event that by his power as the great Jehovah, the Great I Am, the great Creator and the Most High God, he claimed life over death, and took his lifeless body up again in fulfilling prophecy. He did this not just to prove he is God, but for every person who will believe and follow him. This was the life altering moment for all Mankind. Jesus Christ came to earth and overcame all evil, sin and death and this he offers to all who will believe and call upon his Holy Name.

I read this talk this morning by Dieter F. Uchtdorf and though to share.

All We Can Do
The prophet Nephi made an important contribution to our understanding of God’s grace when he declared, “We labor diligently … to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.” (2 Nephi 25:23 Book of Mormon)
However, I wonder if sometimes we misinterpret the phrase “after all we can do.” We must understand that “after” does not equal “because.”
We are not saved “because” of all that we can do. Have any of us done all that we can do? Does God wait until we’ve expended every effort before He will intervene in our lives with His saving grace?
Many people feel discouraged because they constantly fall short. They know firsthand that “the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” They raise their voices with Nephi in proclaiming, “My soul grieveth because of mine iniquities.”
I am certain Nephi knew that the Savior’s grace allows and enables us to overcome sin. This is why Nephi labored so diligently to persuade his children and brethren “to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God.”
After all, that is what we can do! And that is our task in mortality!

Friends, I add my personal testimony that Jesus is the Christ, the only begotten Son of God. Indeed my life stands as a living testament to the power and Grace of God. It is indeed a mighty gift unto us, but as any gift, it must be opened and received.

I know in my heart, I daily have confirmation from the Holy Spirit of God that Jesus Lives and he is here to help me. He is here to help you and all people who have ever walked upon the earth.

He overcame physical and spiritual death. As he was the first to be resurrected, we all will be resurrected and stand before him in our bodies to be accountable for our actions and desires of our hearts. I am grateful this day for the Grace of God, that despite my imperfections, Jesus Loves me, and you, and all of us and through his Atonement, make up for my lack. I shall not cease to follow his ways and his commandments because I love him. When I fall short, He is there to help. After all I can do is to believe and call upon his Holy Name, which is Jesus Christ.
